For his residency at Studio 3325, Kevin Kaempf will be working with the performance group Lucky Pierre on their ongoing project, Final Meals. In this project, the group recreates final meal requests of 310 Texan death row inmate since 1982, when the Texas Department of Criminal Justice began publishing the lists. Lucky Pierre and Keampf find volunteers from the community to volunteer in performing the act of eating the meal while being recorded to be added to their extensive video archive, which is later exhibited in public spaces. The project is meant to illicit contemplation on the lives lost in the criminal justice system as well as acting as, as the artist states, “a meditation on the physical body, our collective social body, and the mechanisms of state power and responsibility.“
Kevin Kaempf completed his MFA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Champaign, IL and BFA from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, IL. He has been included in numerous exhibitions nationally and internationally, including at the Yousuf Art Gallery, Kochi, India; The Glass Factory, London, England; and the Kunsthaus Speckstrasse Gängeviertel, Hamburg, Germany, among many others.
